His Champion team is like the definition of KANTOOOOOO, made worse by how there's cool draconic Pokemon like Kingdra, Ampharos, or Tyranitar he could've had. He even has fucking Charizard instead of any of the Johto starters, which all look draconic at a stretch (Feraligatr and then Meganium moreso than Typhlosion admittedly)

He's just underwhelming as a champion. It's like, he was the penultimate boss in the first game, and then in the sequel, he shows up as champion, but there's no tension to the fight because you've already beaten him before.

someone post his pussified dialogue in hgss. dunno why everyone rides that game's dick, it has a lot of cool features but it has downsides too (having it fill in the blanks from a game that was originally in 8 bit graphics is going to ruin the original's feeling no matter what you do)

His showing up to preemptively to bust Team Rocket in Mahogany town was a very good choice. He was nothing in RBY so it was sudden to see someone that powerful show up, and of course he's partial to Gyarados himself so it fit. But as with Bruno returning, he was a very "been there, done that" boss. Triple Dragonite is pretty darn hype if you aren't packing ice, at least. His newer outfits are pretty nice though.
