Last thread was fun but instead of focusing on rivals we want to see in a Pokemon game, describe the perfect rival for you personally!

What are they like? What is their backstory/relationship to you the player?
What are their teams?
What Pokemon do they use?
How do they change throughout the story?

Feel free to otherwise world/game build as you're creating your rival.
Let's give each other feedback and inspire some creativity and have a chill time.

At the start of the game you get to pick your rival.
Each rival will specialize in a different sort of strategy and specialize in two types of Pokemon although this doesn't limit their team.
You can still encounter the rivals you don't pick, but you don't unlock challenging them until after you beat the league.

Which rival you pick determines which of five towns you encounter them in, and ideally this game is less linear so you can go to any of these towns in whichever order you want as they're all close to the starting town and the number of badges you carry determines the Pokemon leaders in respective towns use and their level.

There's also a "bond" level between yourself and other characters, including your rival, whose bond can turn ambiguously romantic (we can't go full on dating sim since this is Pokemon) as when their bond is maxed out it shows a heart symbol as opposed to the stars that appear alongside other trainers.

My chosen rival: Ghost/Psychic type boy
Essentially a male Hex Maniac only his personality is entirely different
He's shy sometimes, but only when he's embarassed
He's stoic and somewhat stern but it's easy to embarass him and he has this cute blushing sprite

He has dark hair, black but not jet black, blue eyes, and he wears dark colors.
Think: black/muted blues.
Originally he wears all black, full goth mode
After your initial encounter with him, his jacket has a hood resembles Banette and his shirt has a set of Meowstic eyes

He grew up in a rough household and ran away with his ace Pokemon--a Shuppet and Espurr--to survive on his own.
(Unlike Bianca, there's never any resolution with his family and you the player never meet or see them. He's just better off on his own and that's okay.)

He used to dream of becoming a great trainer and a gym leader, because he loves to battle, but instead he and his Pokemon have been using ghost and psychic tricks to cheat slot machines at the local game corner.

He lives in a nice house and is comfortable now by all means with his Pokemon.

The game corner's manager suspects him of cheating and hires you, the player, to catch him in the act.
When this happens, it leads to a battle.

He's so invigorated by the battle that he realizes he lost sight of himself and his dreams just because he got a little comfortable and that his Pokemon, although they lost, enjoyed battling again.
Even though he was doing it originally to survive, he admits that he got greedy and also neglected his own honor.
He laments that he was acting no better than "them" (his family) by acting like a common thief for the sake of it.

He apologizes to the owner, returns his stolen winnings and offers to give up the house he's renting but the owner is nice and admires that Ghost boy was willing to come clean.
He also has Ghost boy show him exactly how the machines were being manipulated so they can be updated in a way that prevents future exploits.

Your rival thanks you for bringing him back to reality and announces that he is reinvigorating his dream of becoming a gym leader and to prove himself he's going to take on the league.
From this point, he will occasionally challenge you and help you out to take out baddies or on other side missions.

You can call him and chat whenever you want, get to know him better, and sometimes meet up in towns for special events to increase your bond.
Lots of optional dialogue, but none of this is required in the game or to battle him.

After you become champion, he's proven himself and a post-game chapter involves him trying out to fill an empty spot for a new Pokemon gym on an island that's just been built off the coast for human habitation.
He has some stiff competition and there's a candidate that's a sleeper agent for the evil organization in this game.
So this chapter involves helping scope out the agent and then finally you play through a tournament as Ghost boy (with his team) to earn the title of gym leader.

After this, you can still visit him and hang out but only one certain days.
He'll talk about gym duties.
Reflect on both of your journeys. Invite you to try out new shops/openings on the island.

Good stuff.
Pokemon will never offer anything of this depth though and that makes me sad because now I love my imaginary Ghost rival.
(I always make my trainers Hexes in their teams so this makes my own trainer compliment him p well)

Mite try to draw him later but these gijinkas are kinda close

They are someone you meet along the way. Around the time you get your 3rd badge, to give you some time to establish yourself, and making the rival a new element to think about in your journey, rather than a constant nuissance.

Starter stronger than yours and a well balanced team. idk

Same as above.
>How do they change throughout the story?
The rival fights are the only battles you can lose and still continue the plot. Based on how many times you beat them, and how many times they beat you, they either act smug or get more desperate and angry. Your final battle with them is for the championship where their mindset is dependent on how many times you've beaten them. If you have the majority wins, they will be deranged, and if they have the majority wins, they are cool headed.

Childhood friend from a large family with a warm and bubbly personality who is also a total airhead and tries to get along with everyone they meet. She's also not what she seems and isn't a stupid airhead like how she makes herself out to be. You used to be super close, but her popularity ended up creating an unintentional divide between the two of you since your personalities are basically polar opposites. You're a quiet kid, very smart but also cold towards others. You don't like to go out of your way to meet new people or make new friends since you're bad at social interaction and have a hard time putting your feelings in to words, even though deep down you wished you were more like your friend. Spending time with her was the best part of your day, and since you two started to drift apart, you turned to the only other thing you knew, which was pokemon.

She's super big in to cute and fashionable/trendy pokemon, but also pays close attention to how strong they are in battle and keeps trying to build a fashionably functional team that counters yours.
>What Pokemon do they use?
Starter is a Bounsweet, gifted to her by her dad.
How do they change throughout the story?
She doesn't like the fact that you and her grew apart, so she sets out on her pokemon journey at the same time as you to try and get closer again, however due to her popularity it keeps bushing you two further apart. You end up trying to avoid her, so she keeps trying to get your attention by becoming a better trainer and doing the gym challenges as well. Ends up facing you for the right to battle the region's champion, and after you beat her she kisses you on national television and asks if she had won a victory over your heart.

Protag being quiet and bad at social interaction would make his quest a lot more entertaining with people asking him for help throughout and he's too awkward to say no or maybe his rival is nearby and is all "yes we would be happy to help!"

But of course. It's on national television after all. And the only way to hide your embarrassment is to tilt the brim of your hat down, hoping the cameras don't see your blushing smile.
