It's Japanese name is "Barriered", with no implication of it being male. It was probably localized by somebody who reasonably did not expect them to add breeding as a mechanic for the next game, despite GS being well into development hell at that point. On the other hand Gardevoir's Japanese name is Sirknight, which raises further questions.
