Yeah Samurott is killing me. I'm still stuck at Clay's gym and you'd think that a water type started would help me zip through his team without much effort but I keep dying

Serperior is best only because of its hidden ability. For normal gameplay without hidden ability, I think Emboar is best.
Samurott is worst starter in both case.

In terms of designs it is samurott.
Oshawott and dewott are really cool and get you hyped for some real samurai shit and then you get an otter with a harpoon glued to his head.

What was they thinking when they decided to do Fire/Fighting for the third time in a row?

Also, Serperior for sure the best. But it fuckin kills me it doesn't get Power Whip yet it gets Leaf Blade. And Samurott finally gets Scared Sword in SM, only to get bench from SwSh.

I actually like Samurott and it's pretty decent in game. Serperior is the best G5 starter overall b/c of it's hidden ability, but using it in game without it is awful. Unova isn't grass friendly, and it's movepool is awful. Emboar is definitely the best choice for a playthrough. Samurott is inbetween

Dragon with any starter type is too unbalance too work. Dragon types wall all three types and any one will have no weakness to the others.

For in-game, Emboar is the best off. Fire/Fighting wrecks a lot of the gyms, and the other two just generally lack good movepools or good matchups. Liligant is much better if you want a solid grass type, and there are a good number of water types aside from Samurott, although Water is less useful in Unova overall
