Sometimes I wonder if there's a single good Pokemon game or if it's all because they were the first to cash in on the concept and we've all had stokholm syndrome since the original pokemania. Notice how anyone born before they could experience gen 1/2 has hard time getting into the series and how zoomers aren't as crazy about Pokemon as millenials.
Then you have the games themselves, extremely formulaic and resisting innovation, barely changing overtime. If you take out the Pokemons out what are you left with? Mediocre JRPGs that have terrible stories and combat with depth inaccessible to the casual player that heavily relies on stats and RNG.
