My mom actually got super into the TCG despite being in a kindergarten teacher in her 40s. Not being a little retard like myself that thought that Charizard was the strongest thing ever, she instead made a proper haymaker deck with this fucker as her opening move most of the time and whipped my ass, my friends' asses, and basically every kid at the Books-a-million Pokemon League at least once. Always brings back memories looking at him or Hitmonchan or Scyther.

Worst: 3D models/Pokemon art ripped from official material
Terrible: Pokemon in the void, pokemon with basic single colour backgrounds
Bad: pokemon in holo decorated backgrounds
Good: basic scenery to imply depth
Fantastic: pokemon with full painted scenery for scale, the entire scene is rendered and has a lot of mood
Best: the previous tier but the pokemon are interacting with the environment.

I've never even used a Venusaur as a starter and it's not my favorite card design, but out of the cards I actually owned as a kid this one was my most special. Somehow my dad bought the Japanese version somewhere individually and gave it to me as a gift. Felt like a real novelty since it was the first time I'd seen a Japanese card in person.

As for cards I like the best art-wise?

IDK I think I like the art from certain artists more taken collectively than having a single favorite card, and some that I like's been posted here already. I like the Southern Island stuff but more the full images than the single card versions.

Here's some art I like of a favorite Pokémon just to keep it simple though.

I used to have like 3/4 of these (I'm sure one of them was that design but shiny), but I gave them away when I was a young teen and thought I was too old for pokemon for a while. Passed them onto younger kids at school who were hype as fuck about it, so at least they appreciated them. The only cards I kept hold of are sentimental ones that are common and hold no value but have nice artwork.

Is that even a thing anymore? I've seen things with like 0 energy cost 50 damage attack basic pokemon with 90 HP now a days.... Not to mention all the 400 HP nonsense running around...

I like it on the older cards (not that I necessarily dislike the new ones, I just straight haven't followed the TCG for like 15 years and so probably haven't even seen like 98% of those). As a kid, at the time I actually collected them, I think he was my favorite artist for the cards since it was the style I most associated with Pokémon outside of maybe the anime, and so I find it really nostalgic and sometimes appealing through the simplicity or something.

But nowadays I do think compared to some of the other artists his cards are somewhat boring, not as much stuff like Pokémon interacting with their environment that makes the others stand out. I think some of the cards he did with gym leaders and other humans ends up feeling more unique.

No. The old cards feel like genuine art pieces, and the new ones feel like sterile representations of a corporate mascot. Even now that they've tried replicating some of the older styles in new sets, it just feels disingenuous.

Anyone remember those pokemon cards that had the trivia of the pokemon on them with the anime artwork? I had a lot of them and normal TCG cards in 3 binders givin to me by my sisters friend on a birthday long time ago. Funny enough that same day Pokemon 2000 was on cartoon network

Before I ever saw the anime, before I ever played the games, one of my very first exposures to Pokemon around 21 years ago was this card. It among others were at a local comic shop I used to go to often were being sold there. I bought him and a few others, and found out about the anime of it a day or two later. By the end of the year, I had myself a copy of Pokemon Yellow, and the rest is history.

To this day, I still have a fondness for this card, and the cubone line as a whole too.
