It's not that hard if you're competent. You can assign dynamic areas to the models (say, the paws or the mouth) & make 1 animation that every Pokemon can use (say, the arm area moves in certain way when the attack is used) & you can use this to receive damage too

This shit is lazy as fuck and (probably) animated manually anyway
