Shiny hunting has been made pretty simple in recent gens. If you're playing gen 6, just chain fish anywhere and you'll have a shiny in less than an hour.

Shiny Sneasel in Gold. I had no idea what shinies even are and I thought it being pink meant is must be super good. Then when I tried using it in Stadium 2 I quickly realized how trash Sneasel is in Gold/Silver.

My first ever Shiny was a Nidoran F in Gold. My mom knew how much I loved the series so she ordered a copy from Japan when it came out for my birthday. I had no clue that they were even a thing and carried it with me all the way to Red as a Nidoqueen because of how awesome she was.

I even remember where I got her, it was that kinda early route where you find Yanma

Since then I’ve found a bunch more in every Gen except for 3 and Gen 8.

My first ever shiny I obtained wasn't originally mine, but from a friend back when bw2 came out. It was a shiny vanillish which he then evolved into a vanilluxe before giving it to me. Even though it's not a particularly amazing shiny it's still special to me and I still have it transferred to my omega ruby copy. First shiny I ever actually encountered was a beartic in Y, which I accidentally ran from when showing it to someone, oh well.
