Dragonite should’ve had his own line. Maybe it could’ve been exclusive to Red while the Dratini line and its new evolution would be exclusive to Green/Blue

Dragonite clashes ridiculously, but that edit is pretty lazy too. Maybe something more like this? At least it looks cohesive with the Dragonair line.

A lot of dragonair alt evolution designs I have seen fall to one of two problems. Either not changing enough, or ruining the design with additions that don't fit. This design is a bit over the edge into category 2. The things on the head are too big and do not look like they would function underwater, but without them this design would fall into category 1. Lugia shows that it is possible to design something that works both above and below water while maintaining a sleek design. Overall this design is really close to what I would like out of a dragonair evolution. I hope that gamefreak adds an alternate evolution along these lines.

This theory is trash, outside of being blue gyarados looks nothing like Dragonair. Dragonite was likely Magikarps original evo and gyarados design was used instead, but they stuck dragonite at the end of dragonair line to not waste the design
