Is there a mod or romhack for B2W2 that replaces the sprites for this guy? Even just with hilbert. They'd be basically the best games in the series but I always absolutely HATED his design. I can't get over how bad it is.

Yes, but the character design is equally as bad, there's one that replaces him with Elio's sprite, it has Gen VII Pokémon in it.

I just really can't stand staring at them, especially when Hilbert and Hilda were such GOAT designs. I think its the ridiculous afro & pigtails.

Every other mainline pokémon game has really good trainer designs though.

I don't exactly know what it is that made me want to replay gen5 so strongly, originally I didn't even like them, thought they were way too different.

Edgy character designs. Weird music soundfonts. Pseudo-3D that fucks with the sprites.

Looking back though I'm seeing more and more positive aspects and now I'm super hype to play. Anyone relate?

No, because when I played it in 2010 I was like "holy shit this is the best Pokémon game ever, the DS era is being fucking amazing"

And here we are, with BW/BW2 still being the best Pokémon games, and the DS era being the peak of the series. Everything after that has been disappointment after disappointment.

And yet all the faggots bought Sword and Shield, giving Game Freak even more reasons to be lazier. I fucking hate this fanbase

Oh I agree with you on modern pokémon, the last game I bought was Alpha sapphire and that's only because I liked the original.

Personally gen 3&4 are my all time favorites. 5 always weirded me out for some reason, now it seems a lot better, maybe being exposed to the new trash made me realize the good qualities it had all along?

This has been my experience, for years and years I've shat on the Sinnoh games because I disagree with a lot of the design decisons, but after SM and now SWSH I'm realizing my critisms were nothing compared to the actual issues Pokemon has now.
