A lot of people say that Pokemon games need better stories. Show me a SIMPLE outline (don't write a fucking wall of text with a million characters and setpieces) for a story that incorporates battling a series of gyms, a token antagonistic team, a rival, and a real bad guy.

Remember, these are games for kids, so don't go over the top with adult themes.

I mean a bigger overching story would be great. Delta Quest was great and would have been better if it was longer. Gamefreak just needs to integrate it better and make it more compelling.

I don't mind a joke team, but team yell was just there to block the roads in convenient ways. It also put me off the all the models were the same and moved so clunky

Make the main villain charismatic (I don't hate Rose) and let his plan trickle down during the storyline (not in the last five minutes of the league).

Let the character interact with the evil plan in some way (ex. Why did Leon fight the dynamaxed perrsurker instead of the player in a cool raid battle)

I think this story about eternus bringing dynamaxdoom to the Galar region could've worked

what the fuck is wrong with complex stories? i was reading lord of the rings when I was 10 and enjoyed it despite not knowing what the fuck was going on. as long as there are some cool action sequences in between, kids don't care whether the story is complex or not--most kids nowadays have a nonexistant attention span, so they skip all the text anyways.

You fight the Pokemon of trainers you met along the way, but now being used by the corrupt evil team. Also some Pokemon were evolved againt their will to become even stronger.

You play as the the sociopath and dont realize you're the bad guy until 3/4ths of the way in. The last battle, you battle YOUR team that you created and you play as your rival. The final scene is a fistfight between both former friends. Rival wins. You die because you're irredeemable. Moral of the story: Stay humble, dont let things go to your head.

People say that, but the one time game freak tried to deliver story in Sun/Moon it just came out as garbage forced cutscenes and the story itself was actually terrible.

Better to just focus on good gameplay, and leave the anime for storyfags.

It feels like this game was trying to address the issue of "10 year old kid handles crime syndicate while champions/gym leaders/police chill out". So many times, adults came by and said some shit like "Oh gee! Don't worry about this, you can leave it to the adults!"

That's okay and all, but I still want to play the game. I'd rather have it make no sense than get cockteased out of every plot point

Ok, so, your parent, sibling, etc is the champion, your rival is a massive fan of them who is majorly fucking jealous of you. They think you're an absolute shitcunt who could never compare and didn't deserve to be their child or sibling. There's your motive for tackling the gym challenge of your region, and your rival's motive for being your rival.

Meanwhile there's a plot in your region to, I dunno, unleash some man-made pokemon that can mind control people, on a massive scale. Team Ego, Team Id, Team Big Brain Am Winning Again, I don't give a shit. Your elite four challenge is fucked over because when you get to the elite four Team Nerds unleashes the beast on them and you end up fighting the elite four up to the champion, your mind controlled relly, and then Team Dickheads chief dickhead. At some point you befriended one of the two local legends and they're what help you be the only person not controlled by it. If you leave the challenge and go to explore everyone in the town is just a vacant zombie, just to remind the player to hurry the fuck up and save the world like the drought/rain in Sootopolis.

Pokémon doesn't need a huge story in the first place. Its not an RPG "epic" like most others in the genre. To be completely honest, I was invested in the Gym Challange of SwSh. It was the main driving force behind the story. It was the shoehorned in Darkest Day Bullshit that felt right out of an 8th graders first attempt at writing fantasy.

You're a research assistant tasked with exploring and collecting data on new mons. Throughout your journey you'll need to use you pokemon to help reach tricky areas like waterfalls, underwater caves, sealed ruins.

Your rival is the other assistant who wants to finish and complete the dex before you. His downfall is he's rushing and his pokedex is very basic.

Battling is still a thing because you'll need type specialist to give you hints and knowledge on new areas.

Basically the game would have a pokemon snap feature and expanded amie. Interacting with pokemon fills out the pokedex more with entries, sizes, data, habitat, personality traits and preferred foods. Your rival does the bare minimum so his dex is lacking but he chooses to train strong pokemon so battles would be difficult.

Post-game would unlock legendary side quests that need specific items and hidden areas to explore. Rematches with the type specialists (all types are available).

No new evil teams, no new region. Have each of the previous regions act as "gym" You have to solve some threat before moving onto the next one, whether it's some environmental catastrophe, Team Rocket trying to comeback, hell, bring back Megas and have them attacking cities. In between each of the regions is a massive wild area. Have the map be completely explorable, and introduce maybe some kind of an optional scaling system so you can just play it non linearly for the most part. Have lots of new characters, cameos, and Pokemon.

Have another company develop it, and make it an actual MMO.
