They were good games, but the seeds of what's killing pokemon were sown in those games (overwhelming story, lackluster pokemon designs, legendary who are there "just because", being forced to capture them, etc)

The difference is that, during BW and BW2 they were trying to make the best product they could.
With X/Y they stopped giving a fuck and the cancer BW introduced became rampant.

Masuda said LGPE might have been the last games he would be at the helm as director, Ohmori just finished SwSh and Iwao finished USUM not too long ago. The rest stopped directing games or haven't been director in a very long time. Who's going to direct the next games anyway?

I do actually think we are dealing with the punished Masuda timeline, his best game got shat on and that is when he realized people didn't give a shit about the genuine content in the game. Everything went downhill then. We started getting less spinoffs to maintain interest in the series and like everything else around 2011 the fanbase had the worst influx of zoomers which resulted in a massive divide in the fanbase and corporate bootlicking got kicked into overdrive.

Gen 4. Story became too invasive, and by the second time the legendary Pokemon were a required, essential part of the story, I knew it would never change back. There's nothing mysterious or satisfying about "discovering" a legendary Pokemon when it's forced upon you and front-loaded with dialogue from awful, uninteresting NPCs

This. I love BW and BW2 as games but holy fuck did they introduce many of the tropes plaguing the series now. They were done well (and the ones that weren't at least didn't detract from the experience) but holy hell they're a completely different experience from the games that came before. I don't blame the people who lump Gen 5 with gens 6-8 as much as I love Gen 5, it just isn't the same feel as gens 1-4

It went wrong when they went to 3d models and said they replaced Blue/Gary in Let's Go because he was "A mean Rival".
I now only look forward to emulating and modding the games on PC to make them fun.
Like with Pokemon Star version.

You're fucking joking right lol. There's like 3 branching paths and you can cut through it all in like 15 seconds with a bike, not even joking. 15 seconds does not make a fucking dungeon. It's smaller than some routes even.
Not to mention the infinity Escape Rope which is funny to be introduced in the first game without a single dungeon.
