They shouldve made the energy run out in 1 month. That way rose’s impatience would be way more justified than a problem in 1000 years. Seriously did they really look at the villain and his motivations made sense? It’s a shame because he’s legitimately a charming character with a shitty story

It's really upsetting because there were the makings of a good story here.

A well intentioned man rich beyond anyone's wildest dreams, no ill will towards anyone, seeing an issue in the world and realizing he is fortunate enough to have the power to possibly fix it.
They could have gone for an angle about environmental activism, and how no one wants to act immediately because they're too busy lining their pockets, so "If no one else will do this, I will."

How they handled it is just so... Bad. Leon straight up said he would help A SINGLE DAY LATER. The wanting to act now rather then let the problem occur would make sense, but there was so little explanation behind it, it just feels like a spur of the moment decision.

he should have started refusing to appear in media and being cold to the fans as the story went on
Oleana wondering to herself why he's acting so unusually, then furiously denying anything's wrong when you ask her

I think that's the point of Rose though. His main character flaw is that he's wrapped up in his own ego and he's impatient.
He's spent many years being a leader and loved and respected, he literally has become so deluded he can't see Leon talking perfect plain sense right next to him because it doesn't fit in his delusion of grandeur.
He will be remembered for generations to come alright, as the biggest idiot going.

Rose wanted to be praised and known for saving Galar, and he couldn't get the recognition he craved from waiting until the next day, since he had 1000s of people watching the championship battle between the player and Leon. He wanted them all to see him save the region and get his ego stroked. If he did wait, then not as many people would watch it if he broadcasted it. I think that's what they were going for, but I kind of wish they would have hinted at his egotism a bit more in the story, though I wonder if his 'casual' sweatshirt/shorts outfit was supposed to hint at it. Did he think he was going to get bombarded with fans like Leon if he didn't dress differently?

Also I think he didn't want any of his descendants to have the glory of saving the day either. He saw it all as a perfect story of lore to have it all go off at once. He arrogantly got hyped up by his own hype machine regarding Leon as champion. Just because he's unbeatable against other trainers at that point doesn't mean he's fit to take on a legendary of that ability. Its not like he's Lance who can pretty much solo an entire Team Rocket facility.
Rose is all show. He's constantly showing off and performing when you see him in the game. Even his assistant is a little embarrassed about how flamboyant and casually fatherly he acts.
If you look at his team it was like he prepared himself to step in and take the glory at the last moment if Leon failed. At least subconsciously. His team is pretty good. At one point Rose himself must have been as good as Leon. Maybe he was a gym leader. Who knows? (I wish he had more back story then maybe we'd understand his motivations more. Could have done with a personal drama like someone close to him dying because he didn't act in the moment, so he always acts in the moment to keep people safe)

OP here. That actually makes perfect sense and kind of justifies his impatience I guess. They definitely should’ve focused on his ego more because the way they wrote it, it makes it sound like waiting just one day out of 1000 years is gonna end the world (even if they did run out of power every other region would be fine lmao)

I agree with you. He sends Leon off to fight this big fucking dragon like 'yeah he totally can handle it, it's all good.' I'm surprised Rose didn't try to fight Eternatus himself; he and the members of his organization (barring Oleana) main Steel types, so they'd have a bit of an advantage against it. As you said, his team wasn't bad at all. I had Centiskorch and Falinks in my team and I still had some difficulty against him. iirc my Falinks got taken out early and Centiskorch was one of my last 2 mons. All of them were 60+, and I refused to use items. He could have at least assisted Leon with his team. I would love more of a backstory other than practically raising Bede since Bede just sucks Rose's dick a lot. Would have loved to see maybe one of his power factory buildings like Sonia points out on route 3.
