There's a lot of needless feaemongering here.
PGL, as far as I know, was the spiritual successor to the Dream World stuff. I never used it, but apparently it had minigames and you could sync it with your game for some other stuff. They shut down the PGL servers for Gen 6 when SMUSUM came out, but obviously, those games still have online functionality.
This shouldn't be a major loss FOR NOW. This doesn't include online trading/battling/etc. I'd only panic once they say the SERVERS for the 3DS games are going down + Bank.
