To be franked they're kinda fucked no matter when they do it. We're eventually going to see the marketing/merchandising end pushing shit that hasn't been in the games for years, assuming dex cuts remain the norm. That's gonna leave people asking questions.
Lastly, I'm gonna be that guy and point out that if they're not in the games, they might as well be dead. The games will always be a big part of this franchise and kids will always want to get the cool Pokemon they see on TV or in the theatres in their games.
