1. It's based on a country whose culture I spent a lot of time immersing myself in.
2. Hoping the clotheshorse would be a step up from Sun/Moon. It -barely- was, partially because everything else is twenty cuts above 'sporty island gear' which I hate with a burning passion, but the lack of blazer+shorts that were not athletic tugged the rating down. That said, the leather jacket, expanded reverse trap capabilities in hairstyle, and large amount of casualfag/masculine/tomboy clothing made the game enough of a happy to satisfy that department.
3. I preordered the special Switch for this game. I pre-ordered the game. People were saying 'Yeah, it's not as good as the other Pokemon games, but it is a fun game' and I was at a part of my life where I needed a fun game.
4. It was released the night before an anime convention I was going to. I live smack dab in the countryside in a very sparsely populated country. And yes, multiplaying at the con was pretty sweet.
