Discounting God-level legendaries

Which type would be the oldest? Which type would be the most recent in the Pokémon world?

I'd assume Steel would probably be the newest, while elemental types (water, fire, ground, electric, rock, etc.) the older types, Water being the oldest of them.

Depends. If we go with the idea of myths being real and all of that elemental bullshit being true, then something made up of the big 4 should be the first ones (fire, water, rock, or electric).
If we go with biology and evolution, the oldest would probably be grass, water, or bug, probably some combination of those

Ground, rock, fire and electric would be oldest followed by ice, water and grass. Dragon I figure would be the oldest "inorganic" type, being so closely tied to myths and legends. Then you would get bug, fairy, flying, normal. I think the newer types would be psychic, fighting, dark, steel, basically types more tied to human activity and culture.

Alot of Pokedex Entries and in-game lore point to a lot of Electric type Pokemon being drawn to Power Plants. I would imagine Electric types became more numerous when humans started harnessing electricity.

But that's kind of weak reasoning. I would probably make it older.

The oldest documented Pokémon in existence that isn’t a Legendary would be Kabuto so Rock and Water type would be the absolute oldest types to exist, at least for regular Pokémon. Then due to all the Fossil Pokémon typings, Bug, Dragon, Electric, Ice, Steel and Flying would come afterwards. Claydol comes right after that with the Ground typing. Then the rest probably just came a long way down the line.
