The whole disinfo thing is kind of a moot point when a large chunk of the people defending this game are in full denial, advertising that the game/story is just as long as previous gens, has just as much content/legendaries/locations etc. which is quantifiably false and therefore "disinfo" on their part.

I think too many people focused on the lack of a national dex and the drama of Game Freak's alledged lie of "future proofing" their animations, that people forgot about the other stuff.

TMs breaking was a big deal because a lot of them were unique.
TRs aren't unique since you can get them from raids or trade for Watts.

The thing is, if a move has high BP or strat value, the game isn't gonna give an ininite TM until way later in the game, so you mostly get garbage.
Having TR around means the game can hand you cool moves at any point, and them being a one-use item balances that out, just like the durability in BOTW meant that you could find a cool fire zweihander pretty early, since you won't be able to use nothing but that for the entire game.

I mean, to be fair, GameFreak made it an obvious association themselves by promising better animations and graphical quality in exchange for cutting National Dex. That's the biggest issue these games face, and unlike most of the rest of the list, is the only thing they've triple-downed on. The other stuff is important, but nobody is doing press releases on TRs or how the G-Max Raids are incredibly rare and require an exploit to grind or how fucking piss baby easy the game is or how quick you can beat the game if you use your brain or how there is literally nothing of value to do once you beat the story or how the premiere feature of the game is the same size as the tutorial area from a Switch launch title but somehow runs significantly worse.

The National Dex is the easiest normie magnet and exemplifies everythign problematic with GameFreak's development strategies.

The fact that the movement started over pokemon cuts is ultimately what hurt it since in hindsight it is literally the smallest problem these trash games have. N64 graphics and WORSE-than-n64 animations are reasons enough for the game to be boycotted, not even factoring in ANYTHING else.

The game is good despite having a cut Dex, it's just a raw game.

I'd give it a score of 7/10 as no Dex and the story was bad, no imagination there, pokemon is easy to write a story for.

Why not have Eternus return to reclaim it's Dmax/Gmax energy, it gives more of a reason to have the wolves return, we should have been given a quest to seek out the items, hidden for thousands of years, having to solve puzzles and find away to defeat the wild guardian Pokemon, so the Wolves are fighting at a disadvantage, you return just in time to give them what they need.

What we need is the Gens Dex to begin with and later add other dexs once we've unlocked the national dex.

I think one of the problems is that for a long while, people focused exclusively on nitpicking small minute details for months like all the little graphical things and reused animations while most people who play pokemon just flat out don't care about those things that much myself included. But unlike those that don't care, I understand that all the nitpicking was done because GF repeatedly double and triple downed on the "improved quality" justifying it as you said. That alone was never going to stop me from getting the game. I was initially going to see how it all played out and might have gotten the game used but all the other stuff such as the tiny routes, forced exp share, dynamaxing, etc, etc along with following the datamines and watching the leakers play the game and seeing there was virtually nothing of value or interest to me which all would have combined into a full package of making me skip out.

Another problem that happened is that over time people who weren't opposed to it just began to assume the dex cut was only getting rid of shitmons no one cares about or would assume others just wanted the national dex to blast through the game with their overleveled bros (which very few people if any do) or only wanted it to "catch them all" and would bring up Alola's lack of a national dex when it was never literally about the dex entries and more of the practice of having pokemon locked to home for an indefinite period of time and having to pay yearly to keep them on the cloud for several years until GF decides those pokemon are suitable for whatever new game they're planning.
