All of these have different appeals, most kids in the west don’t give a shit about RPGs and shooters are more popular in the west. It also helps Fortnite is pretty fast paced. You can die then queue up immediately for the next one or hop out when you don’t have the time (at least as far as solos are concerned). It seems rather than Pokémon targeting kids, they seem to be targeting casuals (with a family oriented facet) who’ll just pick up the game not play it or just want a low maintenance RPG to play through. quickly.
