Fixing Breeding

No.41578556 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
How would you fix breeding in Pokemon?

Right now, there's a handful of traits Breeding can affect:
>Nature
>Abilities
>IVs
>Egg Moves
>Shiny Status

The problem is that many of these things have objective "best results." A Pokemon with less than 31 IVs in all stats is not a unique monster with it's own special strengths and weaknesses, it's a failed Pokemon. Likewise, while the game acts as though a Pokemon's Nature is a fun way of giving them unique a unique characteristic, a Pokemon without an ideal nature is trash.

After a round of breeding, instead of having a box of different monsters with their own identities, you have a box of either successes or failures to dispose of. Recent fixes to this system in Sword & Shield have allowed players to circumvent these issues (such as Mints to fix bad Natures,) but these are just patching over a problem.

So, how would you fix the breeding system? How do you make breeding more rewarding without relying solely on stats? How would you make it so that some Pokemon that result from breeding aren't just instantly disposable?
