I agree that the games aren't as good as they could've been.
The problem here is that even a shit game with the Pokemon Logo will sell well as long as they have marketable gimmicks.
The games have been pretty soulless post gen 5 and this is just kicking it in the nuts further.

Anon, you retard, Sword/Shield did two million in its first three days. This was already confirmed by Nintendo's press release. Famitsu's numbers don't include purchases at the Nintendo Store, purchases from Amazon.co.jp nor digital purchases on the Switch eShop.

Also costing more on a platform with a much smaller install base. And said platform moves a shitton more digital copes than the 3DS, which had very small storage and took 6 gorillion years to download and install 1 game.

Japan pushed back harder than anyone else about the bricking issue, so I wouldn't be surprised if Japan did comparatively bad. Sales might be higher than SM in other parts of the world but no way of knowing yet.

Japan had the dexcut announced in Famitsu interviews and more. They also had the same access to Treehouse info that we had.

The only thing Japan didn't get was a jap translation of the Masuda "were sorry but not sorry" letter, but more than enough fans across all those months provided fan translations of it anyway.

I didn't even know black and white 2 existed for a good while. I was into pokemon religiously until diamond and pearl, hated them enough that I dropped out (although I did get soul silver), and joined back for XY. I saw the box art for BW2 on shelves but only in passing and assumed they were the first versions since I didn't pay close attention. I don't remember any marketing whatsoever for them.
