I find it very hard to believe that most people did not own 2 or 3 3DS during the devices lifetime. So your install base of consoles sold should be half that number because people weren't buying a copy of the game for each device. But we look at the switch, which costs more so it is unlikely people are sitting with 2 or 3 of them in one house so your install base is much more in line with number of consoles sold.
I just googled for these numbers so:
75.45 million 3DS sold, so maybe 40 million unique owners.
SM = 16.17 million sold
roughly 40% of owners.
Switches sold 41 million
SS sold let's say 2 million from OP.
that is almost 5% of owners.
SS has a long way to go to match up.
