I went through the gen 8 dex to pick some of my favorites and I had a lot more this gen than last, so it's at least better than 7 to me. The starters are worse, though, since I at least liked the first stages of gen 7's whereas this time I didn't like any stages of any of the starters.

Bugs, birds and rodents used to be boring as fuck, it's only in the recent gens they made interesting shit with them, but the rodents are literally NORMAL type so it would be hard to make really interesting and cool ones to give them good stats/moves/typing

Pretty weak. Zacian and Zamazenta being wolves didn't really help with them feeling unique and Eternatus is definitely an interdimensional freak like it's meant to be
Overall I feel this gen designwise is pretty weak, with less fan favorites than gen 7

Dark bros are typically early-game Dark-types you can catch within the forst few routes, mostly before the first badge or trial. They are also not version exclusive. Stunky is exclusive to Diamond, and you don't get one until Route 206, which is after second badge. Pancham isn't obtained until Route 5, which is after first badge and it is not even a Dark-type until you get it yo Level 32. Inkay isn't even a Dark bro, as you need to get the second regional dex in Kalos before you can catch one on Route 8. Everything else counts, though.

Okay I basically removed the archetypes that aren't constant in all games (which also scraps the idea of adding cats or dogs archetypes) with the only exception of the fossils because that's a pattern GF actually acknowledges and accepts, Gen 2 and 7 had no fossils for special reasons, but the pattern is still real.

Any other archetype I missed?

Starters could be better but them being faster than previous starters is nice.
Orbeetle and Corviknight are cool, I like them alots.
Greedent is meh. At least it have an actual role with berry trees instead of being forgettable rodents as always, I guess.
I like Obtasgoon but why do it have no good moves like extremespeed? A shame. Thevul is a shitmon, again a shame since I like the design.
Morpeko is meh, but I think its signature move is alright. It did kick my team when I first fight Marnie.
Dragapult is nice but I haven't got a chance to use it yet because it's locked beside certain weather and in late location.
I dislike them from first reveal, but wolf legendaries do look better when not in sword and shield forms so I like them a bit more. Eternatus is very alien-like and weird, I think it's kinda cool design.
Looking forward to what new mythicals will look like, if there are any. I prayed for them to be not another furbaits like Zeraora

Mewtwo is in the same category as Ho-Oh, Lugia, Rayquaza and the others, they are main legendary pokemon (not sub-legendary pokemon as the code refers to them). Yeah he wasn't in the cover of any game but you can say the same for Zygarde, it doesn't matter

The starters are bad. The rodent is dogshit, looks like a bootleg disney character. Theivul is eh, Obstagoon is shit (and I actually like G-Zig and G-Linoone).
Morpeko is genuinely the worst Pikaclone ever made, fuck that thing. It looks like one of the rough approximations on the front of an action replay/powersave package.
The dogs are shit, Eternatus is cool.

True, and Zeraora is ugly as fuck plus Marshadow was only distributed once in some countries, including NA. But one being always available (and I guess if Meltan is counted, then 2) is a pretty big plus even if the original Gen 5 mythicals were originally available through wifi. And this is just for cutemon mythicals anyway so only 2 per gen (Maggie and Marshadow, Meloetta and Victini).
Technically the Gen 5 ones are also from the DNS exploit but idk if that counts since it's a fan server.
