How was Treecko a shillmon? Sceptile is objectively meh, mega Blaziken was revealed a whole game ahead of the other two megas, and Speed Boost was strong enough that the thing was shunted right to Ubers.

Torchic's final evo was revealed in anime first before gen 3 games come out, and its mega evo is event gift in Gen 6 before ORAS.
Treecko might have been great and cool in Gen 3 but it's a garbage now thank to physical/special split. Not even dragon type can help it.

Fire has consistently had the worst starter designs in the franchise. Only Blaziken and Infernape are great.

I think their talking about the Anime in which yeah, the Treecko line was more shilled than the Torchic line mostly due to Ash having Treecko while Torchic got lumped with May.

Although one can also argue that was before the concept of Shillmon became a big thing.

Inferape was good,Blaziken was passable, Delphox works on a conceptual level but was done in a poor way. Everything else was too bland or too stupid
