Game Freak has misunderstood the demand for postgame. They think people want these shitty story extensions that last 1-2 hours like Delta Episode and Rainbow Rocket. They don't understand that what people mean when they say postgame is a lot of content that's very replayable and requires a decent chunk of grinding, like the Battle Frontier, because it can add hundreds of hours of play time.

I don’t get Masuda’s mobile games argument. Yeah kids play on their phones a lot, but the kids who want dedicated gaming systems like the Switch are obviously going to be ok with putting more time into Pokémon than some shitty phone game. Trying to reduce Pokémon down to the simplicity of a phone game is just going to turn people off from buying it (especially now that it’s full price) because you can get the same experience from a free to play phone game.

Post-game content has never been consistent in this series to begin with. RS didn't have an additional map like GSC. Emerald added the Battle Frontier and post-game Gym Leader Battles, but these things went missing in Sinnoh until Platinum came out. Then BW1 removed them again, and instead your post-game was just a few more towns in the east. BW2 expanded the map and added a-lot of sidequests, but XY only had the Lumiose City Looker Bureau, Battle Maison and Zygarde. Nostalgia aside, Masuda's era was nothing short of a rollercoaster.

You used to actually have to crawl through a dungeon to get one.
Then in gen 6 and 7 they just stuck them in rooms or hallways.
Gen 8 just says fuck it and only has the box legends at the end of a sidequest.
