Not sure if this counts but when I was little I would evolve them in "fitting situations" like I only evolved my blitzle after it beat Elsa's

Mate I still do this. It’s arbitrary as fuck but it doesn’t feel right to evolve my starts by beating refusing rodents and bugs

yeah, my whole gameplay of USUM was using stage 1 or mons that didnt evolve just for a challenge.

I do it all the time. After Scorbunny evolved I threw an ever stone on Raboot and only let my Morgrem evolve after it beat Piers’ Obstagoon because I wanted it to prove itself as the strongest Dark-type Pokemon in that scenario
