Looking for advice on a Defiant Falinks set for doubles. I'm thinking so far

>Protect
Considering Throat Chop for the last move, but Iron Head, Zen Headbutt, Megahorn, or Rock Slide also seem like a good 4th slot. He's also got Helping Hand, but I don't think I want him to be relying on CC as his only attack.
Also thinking going Jolly/Adamant 252HP/252attack or maybe taking some into Speed.

now that i'm in Master Rank i'm finding some interesting teams which is fun. I've also been seeing some interesting movesets, like Dragapult with Steel Wing so he can get Max Steelspike for fairies. Never would have thought of that

max moves creates a meta of it's own almost. As long as you're not attacking another dynamax, your max moves could turn a 30bp attack into like a 90 of a certain type, what would originally be difficult now has the power to type advantage OHKO something.

His gigantamax is also extremely good, allowing him to set a steel type version of stealth rocks

Tough Claws or Steely Spirit for Peerzerker?

It doesnt get access to any kind of speed buffing so I would assume curse builds or focus sashes would be the way to go as a wallbreaker.

+50% to steel moves, or +30% to contact moves?

It doesnt exactly have a lot of coverage, just steel dark and u-turn.

Is spawning rare raids disabled until your part of a way through the story? In 20 tries I couldnt get one to spawn earlier using the exploit.

Intimidate is heavy VGC. So heavy that most people run defiant/competitive users to counter them. If you run Intimidate, which is a fine idea, be very wary of those who can take advantage of that. Braviary, Bisharp, Milotic, or even Gothitelle are Pokemon to really be careful around. Moxie is good too, but I cannot say one is better than the other.

I can't hate either of them. They make great content and their insight is valuable. Wolfe is close to my area, and I've played him in a PC once. He kicked my ass, but complimented me on the obscure strat I ran and told me he almost was thrown completely off, so that made my day.

Power Items give 8 EVs + the EV of the pokemon you're killing. Double that with Pokerus. It's pretty easy desu.

If that's not your forte, there's tons of ways to make a lot of money fast (farming luxury balls, gigantimax Meowth battling) to buy the minerals for your mons.

If you just want to wait, power items + leaving them in that training job will get you max IVs in a day and a half.

Pick your poison, but it's definitely not hard

Just beat the game and am getting around to this now that I doubt injections will work (atleast nearly as easily).

That's probably what I'm going to start doing is farming the tournament. But even then you have to go farm berries to get rid of any EV's youve gained, is there a way to find out where your ev's are in?

Assuming a team with Excadrill and Ditto, I'm really undecided on what to use as a defensive core. Ferrothorn and Toxapex seem likely, Corsola is a possibility to.

For hard hitters I'm inclined towards Dracovish and Garmanitan, but I also have so far a pretty damn slow Hatterine or a somewhat faster Gardevoir.

There's also options like Dragapult, Centiskorch, Togekiss... how do you guys manage to narrow down teams? I've never really competetively battled before so I'm at a loss.

bro you can literally have 252 Evs in a stat within a minute. Put the Pokemon with Pokerus+Power Item into the Pokejob Seminars for the stat you want, go to a den and do the clock exploit, go back to the PC and the pokemon has max EVs in the stat you want. I have battle ready Pokemon 5 minutes after breeding, and you could do 10 at a time. Don't waste your time not doing it like this

Just go for what you like, but cover your bases. You don't want a big gap in typing that you cant easily deal with, dont run all physical attackers etc, beyond that you could maybe make a strategy with them if you're up to it, ( like trick room or weather control).

Mostly just think of what role you want filled, then brainstorm what pokemon will fill that role.

Cheers. I've not really battled since Hoenn and never done calcs, so it's all just confusion levels of not knowing what'd survive what and so on.

Angling towards Excadrill and rock setter and spinner, Ditto for revenge killing, G-Darmanitan as the main heavy hitter, Toxapex and Ferrothorn for a defensive core and that leaves me with a spot I guess I could put Gardevoir as a secondary heavy hitter. I'm not sure what gaps such a team would have, but it feels like most of the team would have good coverage against a fair number of threats.

Something a lot more important in doubles is speed control i.e. Trick Room, Tailwind, Fake Out, Protect. Stuff that lets you go earlier in turns/deny the opponent turns. Hazards aren't shit and switching isn't as useful.

A lot of its moves don't trigger Sheer Force, and the main reason to use Sheer Force is to bypass the Life Orb recoil.
Even if you use Sheer Force, you'll still want Heat Crash as it still OHKO's everything it needs to even without Heavy Metal.

Along with the other methods mentioned in the thread, you can also spam EV drugs until max now instead of being limited to 10. Just use one of the gorillion methods for getting quick cash and buy them at the Wyndon pokemon center.

Game made getting competitive stats so easy that even a child could do it if they actually know what systems are in place.

How good would a vish+pult offense core be in something like a rain team or speed control? I've also seen some support sets for dragapult like will-o-wisp and hex that seem interesting but I don't know if I could be using pult better doing something else besides spreading status. If I'm going rain, I could consider ludicolo as another attacker that takes care of some water absorbers that might be running around.

I'd imagine it'll be the same argument as Clefairy vs Clefable; they both have ups and downs, but you can use both fairly effectively. For this bonus bulk, you're going to face a lack of an item and a less amount of power and health (though the difference between the two's base health is like 10, so that may be less impacting)

I don't like how many physical attackers on this team, I could run Dragapult specially or mixed and Weezing could be a special attacking supportmon. I want to run Weezing with Neut Gas, so if he won't get Levitate immunity, would it be wise to run Bronzong with Lev over Heatproof?
Do I have too many bulky mons and need more power and/or speed?

I've been using a physically defensive set with Scald/Destiny Bond/Strength Sap/Trick Room
and it just completely stops things like Gyarados, Dracovish or Darmanitan.

I’m still in process of creating my first team but from what I’ve seen on tranny-ter most people go for tried and tested builds like Tyranitar+Excadrill+Rotom. New good mons include Dragapult, Indeedee female, Corviknight and Toxtricity. There was also one guy running WP Coalossal+Scarf Weavile but he’s a known memer (albeit a very good player).

There's a list of stuff you should look into if you're planning on going trick room. First, if you're going hard trick room or not (this means that your whole team revolves around trick room being up or just a way of speed control). After that you should look into at least 1 setter (or 2 if going hard trick room), then some trick room abusers (slow, bulky and hard hitter pokemon preferably) and at least one pokemon that can sweep outside of trick room in case you didn't finish your opponent off after trick room expires or you weren't able to set it up immediately.

Probably because most of the doubles threats are the same things you’re going to see in OU? No need to be a cock about it. Expect a shitload of Excadrill/Ttar, Pelliper, Trick Room setters like Hatterene, also Dracovish, Dragapult and Galarian Darm. How you want to deal with those threats is really up to you, the format is so young it’s really not super clear what the best things to use are just yet.

Doubles has a great number of singles threats the same. Issue is the strats cause niche Pokemon to possibly live longer, yet at the same time glass cannon sweepers tend die much easier (even if you kill 1 enemy, the other can slap hard back). Doubles instead of stalling walls like Toxipex or G Corsola will have more support sets for bulk. Think like Cllefable with Follow Me, Whimsicott with Helping Hand and Tailwind. Prankster Willowisp/Twave, stuff like that. Because survoval is much more difficult at times, natural bulk is also much more valuable. Tyranitar, Rotom, and other bulky bruisers are good examples of this. Finally, you are more open to gimmick and setup strats since you have 2 Pokemon on the field to meddle or setup. Unga bunga brute force isn't as prevalent as it is in singles. Not always at least. Team synergy is much more integral because of this.

I'm trying to get into competitive through Pokemon Showdown, and after playing 67 )34-33) games and making heavy use of the /data and /weak commands, I think I'm caught up with basic game mechanics from where I stopped playing as a kid (Gen III).
I was just playing random battles since you don't have to make a team, and they're okay but I think making a team seems like fun too, where/how do I start? The smogon things and links in the various chat channels in Showdown all seem like they link to Gen VII stuff and are generally outdated/assume a basic knowledge level already.
I was looking at the Monotype stuff and it looks like a cool idea, but at least for Gen VII it seems if you played your favorite type (fire) instead of one of the ones determined to be good you would just be fucked.
Any recommendations of which tier to look at for newcomers? How long until stuff gets updated with new rules and guides and stuff?

Excadrill has really high base hp which makes it's dynamax incredibly bulky so I don't think you're one shotting it without your own boosted Dynamax, preferably a special water move or something. Also all it's STAB Max moves boost it's defenses.

It's not like this is the Pokemon TGC though. Gamefreak pretends singles 6v6 doesn't exist, a lot of people like singles 6v6 so Smogon exists. Also Pokemon is inherently a joke competitively and Smogon tries to make it slightly less of one. with a neutral nature, Leafeon reaches 578 in sun with a neutral nature. 634 is its max speed witha +speed nature. You outspeed +1 Dragapult by 2 points if you care about that. Other than that, I'd go with Adamant because the literal handful of things you'll outspeed you can't really do much against in the first place.

The main thing is many people like singles 6v6 which gamefreak doesn't really care about. They've obviously taken doubles as the official competive format.
Smogon also has shit like tiers where you can use your favorite shitmon without getting stomped by whatever crazy thing like excadrill now or choice band scizor then
And if you don't like that arbitrary ruleset, you can just play Anything Goes,Battlespot or VGC on showdown. It's all just for fun at the end of the day

LO Clefable fucks this thing up and if it's not offensive itself (in which killing it isn't really all that hard) it won't do anything meaningful back barring crits. Dragapult handles it just fine too. It's obviously really good but it's not THAT bulky.
