The game is challenging and has a lot of lesser cared for Pokemon that you are forced to use. That and there's some terrain gimmicks that add some strategy to the game as well as level caps. If you care about the game being intentionally hard and can look past the shit story and tranny bullshit it's alright.
However I would recommend you play Pokemon Empyrean instead if you want a hard game that's not as retarded in the story (still gets edgy but not retarded levels like Reborn).
Some of the regional forms are kind of interesting too.

The closest thing to an actual Pokemon game is probably Pokemon Prism. It actually feels close to a real game and Gamefreak even stole a few things from it later to use in LGPE (the segment where you play as eevee/pikachu).
