I am starting out in Sword. FUCK this game so far, I cant move for two seconds with out some NPC stopping me to tell me what to do or shoving items in my face. This is ridiculous.

I found it much more tolerable than all the 3DS games in terms of this. You can opt out of a bunch of tutorials such as catching pokemon and a tour of the pokemon centre.

You can also opt for shortened version of story stuff. You can turn off the cutscenes in settings if you're really annoyed by it all.
