Seems weird to have an Asian character with explicitly Asian features now after the characters from the regions based on Japan all looked like standard anime characters with no realistic Asian features.

Ever since DP GF does make an effort of trying to characterize the leaders better, except for XY where for no reason they decided to focus 100% on Korrina while everyone else got the standard "Welcome to my gym lets fight ok bye"

Pretty easy for somebody the story hypes up as being really strong. You’re just strong enough to be able to catch a Dreadnaw which dabs on his entire team. Gigantamax Centiskorch is based though, so he gets a few points for that.

I don't think I could name a single XY gym leader apart from Korrina off the top of my head, and the E4 is even less memorable. XY as a whole is so utterly fucking bland to me, they're easily the worst games in the series for me even if mechanically they're not the most offensive.

Because he's a token character in a western inspired setting and it's to easily distinguish him as a foreigner from standard anime characters. Same reason why Lt. Surge, the American Gym Leader from Kanto, is tall, ripped, and blonde blue eyed. And it's also why Chinese anime characters have more slanted eyes than the Japanese one and wear stereotypical Chinese clothes. But in their own respective settings they're all the same as standard anime characters depending on the artist's art style.

His movement really had a lot of mannerisms and the spark in his eye when he gigantimaxed centiscorch was nice. Overall, a pretty cool guy and my second favorite gym leader. Raihan is my personal number one, he knew exactly what he was doing with that sandstorm set up and constantly had a shit eating grin. But if Kabu got just as much screentime as Raihan, he would probably top him.
