In general stick to 3rd versions/sequels for the most complete experience - crystal(as you said your last game was silver) emerald, platinum, black and white 2, Ultra sun and moon.
Remakes: Fire red and leaf green are definitive kanto experience. A lot of people really love heart gold and soul silver but as you've already played the original and they are super expensive to get legit that might not be the best choice for you. Omega ruby and alpha sapphire had none of emerald's improvements and added/changed a ton of things for the worse - replacing a city with a mall, having your rival basically teleport you wherever you need to go next, ect - but also some neat stuff like soaring on lati@s's back. Let's go has more overworld pokemon stuff but otherwise is very dumbed down garbage borrowing mechanics from pokemon go like just throwing balls at wild pokemon instead of battling them.
