It didn't help. But only the change between Gen 4 and 5 what occurred because of that. Gen 6 onward is the result of rewarding initial 3D incompetency (buyfags condoning an unfinished product) and mobilefags/ultrazoomers allegedly only having the attention span for braindead routes.

I doubt it, I think just because gen 5 was so focused on its story, the games had to be made linear as a necessity for telling of a cohesive story and dialogue.
