I used to think I was one because I had a gf who was objectively super good looking and had great tits but she did absolutely nothing to me, zero, nada. On the contrary, what little we did made me feel incredibly disgusted and dirty, so I came to the conclusion that I was asexual. Fast forward till I met my fiancee, someone who I love to death and loves me too, I have an incredibly strong connection to her and guess what, the sex we have is completely out of this world. Upon pondering about this I realized it was because I didn't love my previous gf at all, she was a nice person and all but I really didn't feel anything emotional towards her, so my body didn't follow, and now that I'm with someone who I genuinely love with every fiber of my being I want to both cuddle and fuck her every chance I get and we both have so much fun.
So yeah, again, I know that word was made up by Tumblr and all, but even so I really do believe that some people like me are emotionally driven and unless there's a connection, no arousal happens, so maybe you have a bunch of people thinking they're asexual but in reality they just haven't met the one.
