Ideas to fix shitty abilities:
>Wonder Guard protects the Pokemon from entry hazards and weather
>Truant only makes the Pokemon lose a turn if it lands a move (ie. missing Toxic gives you the chance to move again on the next turn)
>Defeatist is proportional to the target's HP (if you have 40% HP but the enemy has 60% HP, your attack will deal 20% less damage; if you have 60% HP and the enemy has 40% HP, your attack will deal 20% more damage)
>Slow Start makes you start with -6 speed and attack, but each turn they increase up to +6
>Emergency Exit restores the HP of the Pokemon to exactly 50% when it returns to battle; if it's the last party member, it gains a +2 speed instead
