When is a pokemon egg determined to be shiny? Upon receiving it from the day care lady, or is it predetermined once you put both parents in the daycare?

In sun/moon it’s when you put the parents in the daycare. I believe it’s the same in SWSH. Furthermore if you save before depositing the parents you can grind out magikarps which are quick to hatch and count how many eggs til a shiny.

I would like to know this as well. It would be nice if we knew the formula so we could just hatch magikarps until we got a shiny.

You can check it now if you want. Once you receive an egg is when anything got determined. You will see that egg come with different nature/ivs/gender every time you soft reset.

No, I mean even if you don't save after collecting the egg. All eggs' natures/IVs/ability slots/shininess etc are set when you create a new save, which allowed magikarp swapping to work.

gen6, you could cycle to get a shiny seeded egg. confirm the shiny, save scum, replace parents with species of choice, and boom--shiny
