Instead of using subtlety or playing with ideas and concepts they just said "Oh we'll make their heads look like a Sword and Shield" it's the lazyest form of character design.
Worse yet is that they are the only ones in the cast to have this sort of hair styling. If other characters also had stylized hair to look like an object it would at least be consistent thematically.
Instead we get these Jimmy Nutron looking abortions.
And people will defend them because people will defend anything once they've seen it.
