Apparently so far, higher difficulty, important trainers having 6 mons. More double battles, HAs, stat buffs, type changes, moveset changes. Adds the moms like Bulbasaur etc. One video shows a battle with Alistair in Sword. So I guess more optional battles too.

If maybe the romhack does the following

Basically, the tools for hacking are very new, and the gym leaders dynamax the first pokemon on their team they send out that has a Dynamax Level greater than 0 from what I know. The older versions of the tool couldn't control Dynamax Level, but new ones can. However, the new version of the tool breaks other stuff, so they can't fix it quite yet.

Trainers having 6 mons through the whole game is just tedious. I say this as someone who plays these hacks regularly. The 6 mon obsession designers have is the worst thing about these type of hacks.

I agree, that's what makes Drayano's romhacks so good in the first place
He gives full rosters where they make sense like Team executives or gym leaders, there's also random trainers with full rosters but they're few and their teams are very diverse, some may have three or four pokemon, some may only have two and some may only have a bulky one that does good damage

Same poster you responded to, forgot my trip. Sadly, that's only partly true. Fire Red Omega, Sacred Gold Storm Silver, and Renegade Platinum have the 6 mon infestation. Keep in mind I'm including bosses too. Early game bosses should not have 6.

Balancing the game around the EXP share is a great idea too, there's some 3DS romhacks that do this and allow you to level up your Pokemon without endless grinding where keeping you on the same level as your rivals

You only start to see a lot of trainers with full rosters very late in the game (Victory Road) and it makes sense cause they're trainers who defeated all gym leaders
I don't recall most trainers in the game having full rosters, even the Pokemon in Clair's gym don't have full rosters. They have three at best and they're meant to be the toughest gym

Also, for anyone wondering, I checked out the documents when I was looking into this hack. I think Leon's teams are unchanged aside from better move sets and his better AI. However, Leon's teams are solid anyways, so I think this is fine.

How is that a problem? They are gym leaders, they are meant to stand out from any other trainer and be a test of strength, they are meant to be difficult and they're not even that frustrating

On the Cheren examples, if you don't pick Pignite, your only option of Fighting type is Riolu, which is a painful grind to Level 13. I am not talking about difficulty, I am talking about tedium. As someone who likes to spread out their team a little bit, I find myself having to grind up random pokemon for one battle, which just takes awhile and isn't fun.

First Gym - 3 pokemon
Second - 5 pokemon
The Rest - 6 pokemon

That's also because more than half of Wallace's teams are shitmons, especially at that point of the game. Cheren's choices are actually good at that point and he also has access to something that you dont, which are boosting moves.

Fair, I forgot about the Dewott change. However, yes, it does take awhile to grind up a Riolu from Level 6 to 13. I've done it multiple times for that one romhack. Even after all the trainers, I'm only at about level 10 or so usually. Thanks to the EXP system in Gen 5, it takes forever to level up on Wild Encounters.

Also, on the topic of Gym Leaders in difficulty hacks. A friend of mine and I were discussing the idea of gym leaders not using 6 until later, but you can only bring the same amount of pokemon that they have into battle. (You would pick before the battle, no hassle of depositing.) Does that sound like a good idea? I've been looking into development for something like a difficulty hack or a new game, so I'd be interested to get opinions.

That reminds me of an idea for a fighting type gym structured like a tournament. You battle two trainers(either gym trainers or other challengers with random teams) before facing the gym leader. While you do get healed between battles, both sides can only use three pokemon and levels are fixed.

Yes, because there can be a level of difficulty or strategy involved which means players actually have to think in their battles.
No, because while the core gameplay could be improved, there's just so much else missing from the games that a romhack won't be able to add.
A story with actually interesting characters.
A world actually worth exploring.
Sidequests actually worth doing.

Overcoming an early boss having a full team with decent coverage for that part of the game is not rewarding to me. It is a long process of grinding a certain pokemon or two up to their level from the measly levels they are at in the wild.

Ordinarily I agree that first gym leaders shouldn’t be fully decked out since it usually means you just give them a shitmon or two for padding but there’s so much time in Swooshie before Milo and so many available Pokémon that giving him 6 Pokémon is perfectly fair.

Pretty much this. Game is so unfinished that even romhacks can't fix them all or at least in short time. It has to rebuild almost whole thing to complete game which takes a lot to work and time.

It's more about strategy than brute forcing a fight. I did a playthrough of Volt White 2 on Challenge Mode with a no healing items whatsoever clause and found this to be the case every time. For example, Clay's team swept me around 6 times or so before I resorted to finding a weather setter that could disrupt Hippowdon's permanent sandstorm which Excadrill capitalized on. Grass Knot was also extremely useful as was special attackers in general.

Dray has an issue though where he puts Life Orbs on a ton of NPC teams later on in the game. It loses its semblance of strategic fighting unfortunately. I guess Pokemon will just never be an SMT.

I also did the same thing, and came across the same situations. However, I by the end of the game WAS able to get a solid team that could handle anything the game threw at me. This is why the game's should ramp up rather than start ball-busting from the word go. So that your team has time to grow and become more adaptable.

I know you were discussing a Hard Mode, but this applies to a lot of modern hacks.
