It's an unpolished point A to B game with no diversions or distractions, just gym after gym while your shitty friend stalks you. SWSH is "fun" because it's still a Pokemon game, just like how LGPE was fun. But they are not good or worth $60. The McDonalds of Pokemon games.

It’s because the games are genuinely Fallout 76 tier, but being Pokemon games and Nintendo games, some people will give it a free pass that other games would not get, simply because of their brand loyalty.

Hell, most of the positive reviewers don’t even play the games. All they can say is “It’s Pokemon! 10/10” and marketing points.
Every time someone talks about playing the actual game, they always complain about how shit the execution is.

I would personally compare them to the typical modern Sonic game. Sonic Forces is a game that took 4 years to develop but has nothing to show for it and it's clear as day that they cut corners. The game isn't broken or anything but it's terribly mediocre and dull.

No. Games like Sonic Forces are objectively broken. The entire game has such shitty level design that it can be beaten casually within an hour and a half. Pokemon isn't broken, people are just butthurt because their shitmons got cut. Otherwise it's the same shit as before.

Well there you go. Gen 4/5 was peak non pokemania pokemon. You had the most stuff, the most sidegames and the most expanded games.
The last game I bought was ORAS and that was because I wasn't aware the Battle Frontier would be fucking gone. I refused to buy Sun and Moon but then someone got it for me and it was the lamest game in the series. Was waiting to see how SS panned out and what a surprise when the leaked copies showed up it was fucking garbage again.

The wild area doesn't hold a candle to all the optional side areas most routes had before this franchise went full 3D. There's nothing to discover or explore because the topography is so flat and featureless.

It does. I'm sure you've seen routes like route 7 which take like 30 seconds. And the straight line "victory road". I'm aware that that older games had some small areas, but they also had more than 10 routes and a bunch of dungeons to explore.

They can, but going by casual playtime alone, SWSH takes at least 5 hours less on average. Most players I saw beat it in 15-17 hours while older entries would be between 20-30 and that is without as many cutscenes.

False. Both Hoenn and Sinnoh had moments where you could branch of the designated story path to do other things, or reasons to come back to older areas. But ORAS ruined that by just teleporting you to where you had to be next.

I meant side areas like, you know, optional places you don't have to visit but can if you want to. The game makes you go to the wild area, so it is not a side activity. Plus all you do there really is catch pokemon so it isn't too different from the safari zone.

I mean yeah you can ignore the Wild Area after the first visit or two, but it's not the same as traveling through a region and discovering a new place on your own, like the Fuego Ironworks in Sinnoh, or the low tide floors of Seashoal Cave which is the only place you can find Snorunt. Environmental puzzles like strength boulders let older areas open up more after coming back to them later on.
I'm not defending the need for HMs but I don't see why they couldn't have implemented something like the gen 7 games to allow for more secrets.
The Wild Area alone does not save the whole region.

You sit at the respective node and datescum until what you want shows up. That isn't exploration in the slightest. Exploration is seeing there's an entire optional route under Sinnoh's Cycle Road and finding out there's a hidden cave underneath with a bunch of useful items in it. It's revisiting the older routes because a HM opened up a side area.

You have reasonable control over your team that you enter Battle Tower with, and can reliably build counters to most stuff. You also don't get completely stonewalled for running into a team that counters yours, and still keep any progress you made otherwise.

Raids are pure luck. There is no skill that can make up the gap, there is no team comp that can magically make raids appear more often or specific raids more frequently. The ONLY way to improve it is to actually break the game and even THEN you're just speeding the process along, not actually increasing your odds of success.

You could rack up streaks in the hundreds if your team was built well enough though.

The wild area is a basically a bunch of glorified honey trees, everything you actually want has a 1-5% encounter rate and costs an exorbitant amount of time to upkeep if you don't exploit around it. In fact, exploiting is the only way to make the "end game" tolerable in the slightest.

Anon, the problem wasn't the hardware, they straight up told the public that if they wanted to they could've made an adapter or something that allowed transfering.
The actual problem was that GF changed how the Pokémon themselves were coded in gen 3. Things like no longer linking the mon's gender to certain IVs for example. Abilities were also introduced, with some mons having more than one. All that data is something that gen 1 and 2 pokemon didn't have and would have been a nightmare to program so that if you transfered nothing would be broken.
Could they have done it? Probably not. GF aren't the best at coding, as we all know, and they were already on a tight schedule. I think that even if they had been given a year or two extra of dev time they STILL wouldn't have been able to get it.
