There's at least one person out there daring enough to reverse engineer an entire Pokedex using copied placement data counters, ported and modified models and imported sound files. Stringing together some type of new interaction parameter in Camp doesn't sound THAT far off by comparison, especially if it's possible to integrate new code based off the 3DS game's actual Refresh/Amie mechanics.
Maybe you and I won't be playing these games when something like that comes to fruition, but someone will. And I'm at least hopeful that they'll enjoy that for all that it would realistically be worth, which is a fucking lot. At least the Switch came out when it did, god forbid an alternate universe where Sword and Shield are launch titles.
