It's possible, just time consuming.

If the female doesn't have it. And your expecting it from the male, you've been doing it wrong. Only the female can pass down the hidden ability(80%) chance. The male has a chance (60%) to pasa it down, but only when breeding with ditto.

males can only pass on a hidden ability (and their ball starting with gen 7) when you're breeding with a ditto. once you have a HA female from that you can start breeding with non-dittos and get a mix of abilities including HA.
