Off the top of my head another is Torkoal into Turtonator and Cacnea into Maractus as an alternative evolution to Cacturne.
What do you guys think? Any others?

To be fair, male and female IRL Buffalo look a lot alike. I'm more bothered about why they don't give Tauros, Miltank and Buffolant a shared baby form. Maybe have it so the caffmon only evolves into Buffolant while in Unova like a region-exclusive evo or something.

Magikarp turning into Gyarados is based off mythology, Remoraid into Octillery is a gun turning into a tank and because remora fish and octopus both have suction cups, woodpeckers and toucans are very closely related

Neither of which barely look like said things outside of the beta and are just a fish and an octopus. Same with the rest, with the last one being a reference not even being a proper display of metamorphosis. Then you have a sea serpent that evolves into a european dragon. Now quit your bellyaching. Octillery doesn't like any of those things, not even in the beta. Its just an octopus. At least give it and Remoraid a similar aesthetic. But in the end it doesn't fucking matter. As long as a pokemon evolves into something cool, nobody should give a shit if a worm transforms into a bird or some other stupid thing.

Dragonair is most likely based off an Imugi, which were lesser dragons(aka serpents) that lived in the water and waited until an orb fell out of the sky to turn them into real dragons, and Dragonite isn’t strictly European, it has several inspirations for its design

Remoraid and Octillery were designed with the other in mind. Drampa was not designed with Dunsparce in mind, it was designed as an entirely separate standalone Pokemon.

Unown should have 3 possible evolutions, unlocked by creating 4, 5 or 6 long runewords. You need them in your party in specific order, 6 different words per evolution - each word boosts a specific stat, and teaches a move upon evolving that isn't available to other words. The rest of move table stays the same. Can be evolved at any level, keeps the level/nature/IV/EV etc. of the Unown leading the party at the time.
