>>41675098I don't mind that there are far less legends. I prefer a small number vs. this giant number where 5 of them are event shit. But I do mind how little of an actual presence the legends have. Despite the game harping on the darkest day and the two brothers, the whole mystery is so fucking obvious o,f "They're POKEMON! And I already saw it on the cover and at the beginning of the game" that you're not in suspense of figuring out the two brothers story, but just waiting for the fucking legendary to show up. Which you can only catch post-game.
And Eternatus really feel like he came out of nowhere. There was no build up of his existence except for "What iiiiiss the Darkest Day?". I don't even recall if we saw his figure on any mural, it was so forgettable.
Suicune persisted you all throughout Crystal. Ruby and Sapphire constantly shoved the names Groudon and Kyogre down your throat. Same with Arceus. In fact, the only Pokemon games that don't really play up the legendary poke in the stories are Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Silver. And they have the unintended benefit of being early internet where shit like "Mew under the truck" and the GS ball created actual mysteries among friends.
Despite how story-driven Sword/Shield are, the Pokemon themselves are really fucking absent from it. I was actually confused when Hop said, "Look! It's Zacian and Zamazenta!". I don't even remember if the story SAID their names at any point.
