At first I thought dynamaxing would be fine, but this shit is honestly garbage.

90% of matches seem to be a swords dance/shell smash into dynamax. At that point you either have to already have a hard wall counter (which won't last 3, attacks) or you use yours to minimize the damage, but they'll have advantage since they did it first.

Or be a homo and use ditto.

Off the top of my head, you can go full defensive in Doubles/VGC with Intimidate and Helping Hand a Dynamax mon, then Baton Pass the Max buffs to another teammate during turn 3 or something.

In doubles it has good bulk and a decent defensive typing but isn't really offensively threatening and it's support movepool is lacking. What support moves it does have are just better on other Pokemon, if it got rage powder it might find a place on some teams maybe. Also 30 speed, yuck.

Pretty much TTar-like bulk, but is much slower. This ensures Weakness Policy always activates before it attacks if triggered in that turn, also serves as an anti-Trick Roomer (its extremely slow speed even helped me beat an Abomasnow-centric Hail team b/c it set up Sandstorm after it twice, first with its Ability and then with Max Rockfall). Also since it's pure Rock and gets Heavy Slam it doesn't fear any 4x weaknesses or Fairy-types.

Dragapult is a Ghost/Dragon type that usually prefers to flex its large special movepool over its impressive physical attack stat. Knowing this, you can assume that majority of Dragapults that you will face will be specially oriented and packing Flamethrower. He's also extremely fucking fast.

Knowing all this, you should have no problem finding a Pokémon with a useable Special Defense stat that resists most of Dragapult's threatening moves.

Bewear have ton of HP so Pain Split would be a bad idea, instead of Return use Double Edge, maybe Thunder Punch can help for Corviknight/Gyarados, or Rock Tomb to low opponents speed in doubles, Fluffy is useful but that extra fire weakness can hurt, Klutz + Toxic Orb + Fling to badly poison someone now that TM Toxic is gone.

Usually simpler works better because we come up with these crazy sets and often lose track of how the flow of a battle actually goes and end up relying on the most ideal circumstances to succeed. I've tried to tone down the gimmicks but simpler teams still just perform better for me.

On the physical side, it guarantees that Jolly Dracovish Fishious Rend is a 3HKO and lets it survive either an Adamant Earthquake or a Jolly High Horsepower from Excadrill. From the special side, it survives Modest Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor and OHKOs back, makes LO Hatterene Dazzling Gleam a 3HKO makes Specs Sylveon Hyper Voice a 4HKO if you Dynamax. It also survives 252+ Specs Rotom-H Overheat 93.7% of the time
The SpA is mostly filler but lets it OHKO or 2HKO pretty much everything it needs to

What's one that disappointed you and one mon that surprised you?

Toxtricity really disappointed me, idk what I even saw in it. Good defesive typing but its bulk is very mediocre that combined with its slow speed make it very underwheming, even with Punk Rock and Overdrive.

Duraludon is actaully really good. Great typing, solid movepool, good stats make it probably the sleeper mon of this gen (at least in doubles).

Hippowdon is pretty tame, you should worry about Kommo-o and Gengar being there. Not that it won't have a completely different face in just a month or two, since a Dynamax ban will most likely shift some mons around.

Something interesting is that they now use an higher cutoff because UU and lower tier leaders got butthurt at the volatility of the shifts. This is probably going to lead to larger lower tiers so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Here's what I'm working on so far.

Escavalier-close combat, drill run, iron head, knock off
Durant-thunder fang, iron head, rock slide, first impression
centiskorch-knock off, fire lash, will o wisp, leech life
araquanid-toxic, liquidation, leech life, sticky webs
galvantula-thunder, bug buzz, energy ball, volt switch
crustle- stealth rocks, shell smash, stone edge, earthquake

It's fucking awful. I figure since bug/steel is such a good typing I could have 2 of those, and then mitigate their fire weakness with centiskorch/araquanid. That being said I only have 2 speedy pokemon, one source of priority which is unreliable first impression, barely anything to hit ferrothorn, no answers for dragapult. Durant is my main planned dynamaxer. Since hone claws is gone for now, I'll just choice band it, and dynamax when necessary to change moves and avoid poor accuracy. Nothing to remove hazards, i considered defog ribombee which is awful

only use sash if you're planning on using itself to use the Shell Smash, in that case use Giga Drain instead of Pass. If you're Passing, then hold White Herb. Tea is usually tanky enough to survive a hit before passing. If you use White Herb though, you need Cursed Body otherwise Weak Armor will eat your herb.

Two, it REALLY wouldn't have helped much. Being part flying just makes him more vulnerable to rocks and worse against Electric, with very little benefit in return. STAB Brave Bird means shit when the hings that are weak to it are already niche, and it helps with no meta relevant Pokemon either.

I disagree, I think being part flying in this case is better defensively, Flying type is awesome when you aren't weak to rocks because now you're immune to EQ without the drawback of being hurt by pebbles which is way better than having the ability to just resist rock by itself and not being weak to Ice/Electric at least this is the case on a Pokemon that is just mainly meant to be an attacker meaning you don't ever really wanna take any hits in the first place so just flat out being immune to shit is better. In my opinion, you're completely missing the point of the added STAB functionally that Brave Bird adds to it, the point is that now it can hit practically EVERYTHING with a STAB move because Flying hits everything that resists its Fighting stab at least neutrally and even bug super effectively as a nice albeit unnecessary added bonus. This means that now you don't need to carry so much extra coverage moves to cover the whopping FIVE TYPES that resist Fighting moves allowing you the luxury of having more options for its movepools apart from just mandatory moves for coverage reasons (For example, many would ignore the amazing move that is First Impression purely for coverage reasons) Just look at how good Hawlucha is offensively with just Hi jump kick and Acrobatics. Solo Fighting type sucks ass after the introduction of fairies, meaning practically ANY other secondary typing to go along with it makes Fighting types better.

I can get behind what you're saying for the EQ point, but the Ice/Electric point is null when you factor in his atrocious speed tier and the relevance of Rotom, Pelipper, Toxtricity, and Dragapult (who I've sen run thunderbolt and Thunder on multiple occasions). And with its middling bulk, Excadrilll still completely fucking mogs it anyways, you would be fucked if he predicted the swtich, and you would have to bank on Iron Head not flinching because you're being 2HKO'd on any max Atk set.

I, again, don;t really see this as not only does it have pretty good coverage in Leaf Blade (hits Toxapex and Gyarados), Night Slash (hits Toxtricity AND you don't get buttfucked by Overdrive), Fighting STAB (hits Ferro), etc. You really need to give me a reason to believe that Brave Bird hits anything meta-relevant harder than he does already

The thing is is that First Impression is already a good coverage move because it smacks Hatterene, Grimmsnarl, and the lesser-used Indeedee, who are very big threats it. Not only that, but its also nice to just get some mons like Dugtrio and Rotom out of the way with the boosted crit chance coming into play. It seems to earn its spot just fine currently. Hawlucha REALLY isn't the best example here to use either, because he almost entirely rides on the relevance of Terrain (and to a lesser extent D-Max moves) to stay relevant. His offenses are pretty mediocre without being able to take advantage, and even then he still gets hard walled by Toxapex and Corsola before SD boost. Also, Dark and Dragon fighting are MUCH worse currently than pure Fighitng, see Kommo-o JUST missing OU even though he basically gets Nasty Plot+ Ancient Power boosts combined when using his new sig-move in tandem Throat Spray, and Scrafty not even being mentioned in the same breath as Gyarados despite getting access to Flying type moves and Moxie as well (though I will admit these two are held back by other factors, like Ditto's prevalence, you can't deny that their weakness to Fairy is a rather large component)

I feel like Gigantimax Hatterene has a place in trick room teams, as it has the only viable G-Max move available. The only problem is that finding a G-Max Hatterene with 0 ivs in speed is fucking impossible and showdown doesn’t work with g-max Pokémon yet, so I can’t test this.

What do you guys think?

Am I missing something? I saw them available for use, and the G-Max moves don't seem to be bugged.

That's pretty much the set, though some will run Dazzling Gleam over Aura Sphere.

Aura Sphere is really only great for taking down T-Tar. But T-Tar dies to a +2 Max Starfall unless it is max sp.def with an assault vest.

Sometimes having that extra point of HP means you'll take an extra point of damage due to Stealth Rock.
At that point the extra point of HP doesn't help with rocks and hurts you when you switch in multiple times.

Ideally, you want one that's a multiple of 8 minus 1.
SR does 1/8 of your HP by default.

Hey complads, Crustle is one of my favorite Pokémon and I really want to make him worked in rank. Could I feasibly make it work with this set? For VGC and Ranked battles more than anything. My thought is to get at least one or two shell smashes off before sturdy triggers, ideally letting me sweep.

how does this set look? i haven't started competitive yet this gen but the rapid spin buff seems like it'll make tsareena pretty good, might replace life orb with assault vest but i've heard the majority of meta mons are physical so the extra spdef might not be as worth it

Assuming generic sets in an all Pokemon available format, if I was to run my favourites of Metagross, Scizor, Gardevoir, Hatterene and Sableye, what would be a good 6th member to fill in any gaps? Off the top of my head I'd think a bulky water like Jellicent or something similar.

This isn't really for competitive, I was just curious what'd go well with my favourites.
