Now that the dust has settled was the Wild Area worth it or should they have double or tripled the size of all the routes/caves instead?

Honestly?
Should have tripled the size of routes AND added more wild areas.
This is a hugely successful game series, there really isn't any reason why they cant do both.

Actually on that topic, I had a question.
Why isnt there any voice acting?
I dont particularly want it, but it's clear in a lot of the cutscenes that they fit spoken dialog.
Just seems weird, there really isnt so much dialog that they cant do it.
They could even just have it for the cutscenes, I dunno.

These games aren't bad, they just should be better at this point.

What these guys said. It's fucking Pokemon, GameFreak has no excuse for shoveling out incomplete games other than their fucking deadlines they try to achieve for maximum profit. We shouldn't have to sacrifice content for other slightly better content, they should just give us shit to do. They've done it before, no reason they can't do it now on better hardware with more money.

IMO it's "worth it" because it's one of the few redeeming features of the game. But it's pretty weak.

Remake Black/White and replace the center of the map with a Wild Area that actually connects to the routes.

Assassin's creed has had a yearly release schedule and they still shove more actual content into each new game than pokemon does.
And pokemon has to be making more money.

I still enjoy pokemon more, dont get me wrong, but other game series are innovating and improving far more quickly than pokemon, and I dont see any good reason for it.

I have a problem with the way they handled how all the gyms connected. Instead of fighting a bunch of trainers a long the way theres short routes with little trainers that back track to later gyms. This leaves fewer room to train so you have to back track to the wild area.
Also i fucking miss horde battles
Why are there no caves in the wild area?

I dug it, and it made me think the usual Pokemon Routes looked weird and artificial in comparison even if the graphics in the normal routes were greatly superior to the Wild Area's.

Future of the series should be investing on routes that feel like it instead of the old style, old style frankly feels retarded as fuck in a 3D game.

Do you need to unlock intense sun weather like a few of the other ones i read about? I just hit the rolling fields and im trying to catch everything as I go, and I cant seem to hit intense sun by changing the date.

The distance from the start of the game to the grass gym is the longest you go between them. After that its literally 1 route between each gym and sometimes there are 4 trainers if that. This game is actually really small and would barely be enough to match a 3DS game.

The Wild Area is a cool concept, but was executed very poorly
If it was done properly (like be easier to traverse for one, since it's a bit tedious to get through) I think it'd be great
Otherwise I'd rather just have normal routes

Masuda was directly asked about the voice acting, he said they don't like it because when a character that you imagined the voice of has a voice that is bad or doesn't match it it can ruin it, and in a game like Pokemon that gets released in so many countries at the same time, making sure the acting is all well done for all languages would be hard. He hinted that he hates the acting in MASTERS because some of the characters sound nothing like they imagined.

It's funny, most of my childhood dreams of "games in the future" have come to pass, but I'm realizing now I'll probably be an old man or dead before we get anything like the dream "Nextgen" Pokemon game everyone always imagines.

At least Sun/Moon was comfy, and B2W2 was basically the peak of what "classic style Pokemon" could deliver.

Just lower the scope of the games and have them take place in a few cities with countryside separating them, San Andreas style. Ever since the series went 3D all towns look smaller since it's harder to pull off the illusion that you're actually visitng living breathing cities

Their mistake was wanting to mix wild area and routes
It would've been better if they added more biomes the same size as the wild area instead of conventional routes, like a desert, snow mountain, swamp, etc.

The wild area is a great idea, but there's nothing fucking in it. There's fuck all to explore in the wild. Even the "rare Pokémon" spawn in fixed locations instead of roaming around naturally. Like, there's always a goddamn Steelix by that one bridge. Once you've combed the area for items and seen all the wild Pokémon, it has nothing of note within it. The game needs more things to do and explore in the wild, like caves with unique encounters at the end of them. And for fucks sake, address the egregious pop-in.

The size of the wild area is irrelevant if the whole thing is going to be a bland golf course. If they want to do the whole open world meme maybe they should remember that the good ones actually put stuff to see in their overworld.

It was downright jarring to watch the opening cutscene and have the roaring crowd, just for Rose to be totally silent. If he made any sort of sound to indicate he was speaking it would have been way less bizarre

Increase the size of all the routes somewhat, but add additional optional routes or multiple ways to get between towns. It doesn't matter if they make everything 3x the size if it's all still the same hallway with no deviation allowed

Get rid of all routes.

Quintuple the size of the Wild Area.

Make all the towns connected to the Wild Area in the center with each one having its own unique area and path.

Make it so you can ride Pokemon that will help you fly, dive, climb the sides of hills, or move faster than on a bike. Maybe bigger, scary Pokemon frighten away the weaker wild ones so they get out of your way when you charge.

Throw some caves in the Wild Area and real-time diving in the water.

And small note, it would be nice if the grass was a bit shorter. I had a hard time spotting short Pokemon in the grass.

It's like you stated this as a "gotcha" to me but all you're doing is pointing out that GameFreak's Pokemon is so fucking outdated, their world is inferior to that of a game from the N64 era.
