You have to be
A. In a scenario where the opponent Dynamaxes on a Pokemon that has a type advantage
B. Dynamax at the same time as your opponent
C. Still doesn’t work all the time since Max Guard has the same fail rate as protect, meaning you have to have a 12.5% chance of blocking all hits
D. If you are not lucky (accounting for Max Guarding 3 turns, your opponent Dynamaxing on a Pokemon with a type advantage over it, and predicting the Dynamax), they will have killed at least 1 Pokemon, got a bunch of stat boosts, and possibly set up Rain, Sun, and/or Terrains
Oh, and good luck if the opponent has Mold Breaker or Power Whip too, since Unaware Clefable isn’t released and Swoobat has shitty bulk.
