after gen 5 they started making the games set in the west so of course there's a lot of diversity compared to the kanto johto etc games. Also the guy on the right is white and extremely tanned.

Because there were a lot of people put off and even surprised by his tanline, the “tan” is just too dark for his original skintone for it to feel natural and comes across more like pic related

Yeah, I can see it, but the color used for Marlon’s tan doesn’t resemble actual tans at all. I think it’d look less weird if they just used a reddish undertone.
