>>41715041You say Gen8 is a 6.5/10, but I would say a hard 4 or 5. Maybe a 6 if you're generous.
Gen 4 was a 7/10 in retrospect. D/P aged like milk, but Platinum is the definitive Sinnoh experience and the Dex increase set a new precedent for remakes to include bigger dexes. HGSS is the game GameFreak put their heart and soul into in crafting a superb remake. Gen2 still being fine games to play without needing HGSS too.
Gen 5 is a 8/10. Almost flawless for a Pokemon game. Salvaged by BW2 especially.
BW1 was their attempt at focusing on story and doing a soft reboot, but there were several issues with that. More story means less player autonomy. I love Gen5, but Gen5 is the culmination of all the criticism Gen4 Sinnoh had with little kids getting lost in Mt. Coronet and "kids short attention span because of phone games" GameFreak claimed.
Sure BW had a great Pokemon story, but a great Pokemon story = a bad rpg story.
BW2 was GameFreak's love letter to the fans. It resolved the story from BW for storyfags, it introduced PWT and gave Black City/White Forest a non-multiplayer gimmick for postgame-fags, for immersion-fags there are a lot of hidden paths and areas (Castelia Sewers leading to hidden spots around Castelia City and connects to the desert ruins), and a romance side plot (beta-Lillie) for those fags.
Gen6 was an unfinished Gen7.
Both are like a 5/10 game because of how hard it holds your hands with the amount of cutscenes and no exploration allowed. Most of that score is for the quality of life improvements for competitive shit, but that doesn't affect the average player who doesn't care about that stuff. They have cool moments, but I dislike the lack of autonomy in the new generations. No cool side areas to explore or return to.
