Tbf the levels spike around the 8th gym and plateau in kanto. The red battle is also not that easy unless you specifically designed your team to counter his types. You're only overleveled with minimal grinding until blackthorn.

In the 3d games though you can wreck the entire region with a team of shitmons with barely any grinding.

Pokemon as a series is cartoonishly easy. From Red/Blue to now only a few standout like Cynthia are actually hard story bosses. BW2's hard mode is the only game you can go all out on from the beginning and you have to use an emulator to do so because otherwise you need to beat the game.

Sword and Shield is the easiest game to make hard and to do a challenge run with. You have more control over your party than ever and the main side content only gives you EXP candies that you don't have to apply if you don't want to break your game.

I literally played Emerald the other day it was way harder than Sword and Shield. It’s not like Emerald is even difficult, it’s still easy, it’s just that SwSh is ridiculously easy to the point where the game basically plays itself. You don’t have the option to handicap yourself as well without changing your team

Earlier games had some relatively large dungeons at least. The lack of those bothers me more than the ease of the battles, since battles in the story have always been easy.

It's weird, I beat Leon with only two Pokemon, with set and he was still above my level.

Its actually easy to manage your levels in Lets Go since you only overlevel from chaining. The gimped movelist means you don't have coverage out the ass and constantly scaling STAB on level up either

I had to use multiple revives after each E4 and got btfo by lance twice before I beat the HGSS pokemon league
in XY I soloed beat the whole league without using any revives

Cynthia was only hard due to Spiritomb in Gen 4, now we have Fairy Types, so should be easier.

For her, if the most needed moves will be of Ice and Fairy for sure (for Spiritomb and Garchomp) then Grass (backed up by Electric) (for her Milotic and Gastiodon) then Fire (for Roserade and Lucario)

But they may keep that team for before post game then give us something like from B2/W2 mixed with some new mons.

The answer always is yes. You can do that, not use items in battle, and even not use pokecenter. Just need enough autism and 1000 hours, but you can do that.

pokemon was "hard" when we were kids and doing dumb shit like teaching four fire moves to our started and trying to bulldoze through everything. now that you're older and understand the game a lot better, on top of the games receiving a lot of QOL improvements that remove a lot of the tedium from previous games, they seem easier. they've always been easy and probably always will be since kids are their main audience

They can be, because of how easy it is to skyrocket your levels if you grind, and the wild Pokemon almost immediately catch up to if not surpass the level curve of the last Gym Leader you fought
But honestly some of the later fights are surprisingly challenging, especially Raihan if you can't deal with his weather, and Leon mostly 'cause his levels are pretty high and he leads with an Aegislash, which despite the nerf, is still a pain to fight

Easy mode is harder than Challenge mode because game freak is incompotent. Lower level NPCs means way less experience, meaning you don't get evolutions and good moves as quickly
