Why has pokemon been stagnant for so long(especially when compared to other series)?

The games are still short compared to other rpgs and most towns still only have like 4 houses

still uses DS soundfonts even in 2019

barely any content in the post game

huge lack of innovation

Because 10 million people will buy it regardless of quality. It’s a problem with society as a whole and hyper consumerism rather than just pokemon. Sword and Shield actually use the same soundfont and instrument library as Sun and Moon.

It doesn't matter any more, Tensent and Nintendo "joined" to sell the switch in China, and pokemon is also well renown there, guess what happens next.
They can freely go full EA to the point of individually sell every pokemon.

There's a bunch of reasons but the biggest reason comes from an interview with one of the anime directors. Pokemon's business model is meant to appeal to kids and kids only. These kids will grow into adults and abandon the franchise, but new kids will take their place. It's a shifting cycle. That's why the anime recycles so many plots because you aren't meant to watch even half of the entire series. The same concept can be applied to the games, and that's why they're so repetitive.

Pokemon has been branching out into an older demographic (see: POGO and Masters) but the bulk of the franchise still continues with this model. Meanwhile Mario or Zelda tries to put more effort into appealing to older fans even if it doesn't always work.

A few reasons
1. it sells no matter what so they can cut corners if need be

2. GF is super fucking conservative and lightly dips their toes into changing things and slowly iterate on features if they bother to bring them back.

3. Shit directors. Masuda and Ohmori especially have terrible design philosophies.

It's because of yearly releases. There is no high quality game franchise with yearly releases, it can't be done. This is a consequence of the trademark being owned by Nintendo and Nintendo needing a holiday release to push consoles every year.

I think they spend a lot of time implementing shit that nobody cares about like hidden values, character dialogue, and story pathing. All anybody wants is for the Pokémon to have a unique animation for every move, incidental story, and a vibrant environment that matches the weirdness of the Pokémon in inspiration.
