Yes, FRLG is the ultimate kanto experience. Honestly it's the only one of the three kanto-centric games that are good imo.

The gen 3 engine is incredibly good and might be the best Pokemon has been with how speedy it is. FRLG are excellent games, not the best but certainly far far away from the bottom. They offer all the tune-ups the series evolved over its first 8 years and it offers a unique postgame in a location that was never seen anytime before or after this game. It is the quintessential Kanto game.

It's ok. I play that psychic adventures romhack instead since the classic starters ofher nothing to seasoned veterans of the series after X and Y obliterated them and you could fight Hoenn girl gym leaders instead of those boring Kanto male gym leaders. It's pretty good.

Not really no. The only new content it adds is the sevii islands which are pretty boring. Otherwise it's just gen 1 which is the weakest gen. In fact you're probably better off just playing the original games for the nostalgia.
